The Return

The Return: a collection of pieces made over the course of 2019 and 2020* after formally returning to a consistent creative practice and starting the Chandlar and Company instagram account.

Before 2018, I had a drought in my creativity and artistic practice. I hadn’t made much after graduating from college and leaving the UW art department in 2015. Over these three years I was caught in the whirlwind of moving around, my first years of teaching, struggling with depression, and generally floundering about as I started “adulting”. Enter an impactful art lesson, Heather from Wyldflower Crochet, the world of fiber, a desperate need for creative release… and here we are.

Though I returned to fiber in 2018, I do not deem any of my early works formal pieces to share. They were practice, experimentation, and play. I feel I started making consistently making fiber work of quality in 2019.

During 2019-2020 weaving was a revered time to process and unpack my feelings and experiences. It was also a valuable time that brought myself back to living as an artist. I relearned how to connect with my intuition and knowing through play.

In these works I experimented with technique, color, weaving frames and scale. I occasionally took on a commission.
